Play it Forward
A new playground is coming to The Sanctuary that will be bigger, better and wilder…
Habitat for Children and Families. Stage One is complete!
Stage Two coming in 2025!
We are thrilled to announce the launch of our new Nature Playground at the Sanctuary in December 2024! This innovative playground will be constructed using recycled material, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. The playground will feature themes of wildlife, elements of the forest, and a waterway, creating an immersive natural experience. The development will unfold in four stages, starting with a new bespoke playground area, followed by a re-design of the sandpit and waterpark areas, culminating in a wildlife-themed nine-hole putt-putt course.
“This state-of-the-art playground is a transformative addition to the Northern Rivers community and a must-visit destination for visitors to our region. As the centrepiece of the family precinct at The Sanctuary, it seamlessly integrates play, cognitive development, ecosystem education, and community engagement into one stunning, cohesive space. This innovative attraction will not only entertain but also inspire a deeper connection with nature for all who experience it”.

The Ecology of Play:
The Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is working with Wearthy to design and build our incredible Nature Playground. Wearthy’s philosophy is built on the belief that every child has the right to play and develop a sense of belonging. With a background in outdoor education, Wearthy has the knowledge to share with educators about the importance of supporting and nurturing children in their outdoor environment. Children’s development is at the foundation of the Nature Playground design at the Sanctuary. Together we believe in a universal humanity where children can feel positive about the future - a future that is theirs and to which they can contribute.
